Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory is a relatively new condition. Only identified ten years ago, there are many more questions than answers. What is the neural basis of this mysterious ability? How is it related to other forms of memory? What kinds of psychological phenomena may be associated with it? Is there a genetic basis for this condition? Can knowledge of how the brains of individuals with HSAM compel us to re-examine traditional notions of memory function which have been the guiding force in research since the 18th century? Can we use this knowledge to learn new ways to treat or prevent memory disorders? Answering these important questions will require a large number of investigators and resources.
