Dr. Ruth Benca, M.D., Ph.D., has recently joined the Wake Forest School of Medicine as Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior from the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Benca is a psychiatrist who is an internationally recognized authority on the relationship between sleep and brain health, in particular psychiatric disorders. Dr. Benca worked to build a state-of-the-art academic sleep medicine center at UC Irvine which provides research and patient care for sleep problems and related neuropsychiatric issues including depression and other mood disorders.
