CNLM High-Risk, High-Reward Pilot Program
February 4, 2022
The Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory is now accepting applications for one-year pilot project awards of up to $25,000 to support high-risk, high-reward research advancing our understanding of learning and memory and/or memory disorders. The program is funded by the generosity of our philanthropic community.
This pilot program is intended to support interdisciplinary, collaborative, early stage and proof-of-concept research with clear milestones and future funding mechanisms. Applications from early-stage investigators and new interdisciplinary collaborative teams will be prioritized. Investigators from backgrounds historically underrepresented in science are strongly encouraged to apply.
Funds may be used to support research expenses, project trainee and staff support, facility use, reagents, supplies, and computing costs. Funds may not be used to cover salary support for the PI, meals, travel, or publication fees.
Applications may be submitted via our online portal and can only be submitted by one PI, who will handle all communications about this proposal. Applications must include the following components:
- Title, list of investigators, and total funds requested
- A three-page proposal (0.5-inch margins, single spaced, 11 pt. font) that includes the following:
- Project significance/value and innovative features
- Clearly delineated hypotheses and alternatives
- Research design and statistical considerations
- Milestones, deliverables and plans for future funding
- NIH format biosketch for each PI
- Multi-PI leadership plan if multi-PI project
- Itemized budget
The CNLM leadership will work directly with awardees to ensure alignment of goals, finalize research designs, leverage related resources and collaborations, negotiate milestones, and plan for timely future large-scale proposals to be submitted through the CNLM.
The deadline for the 2022 application has now passed.
