Our Journey
Working with CNLM Director of Outreach and Education Dr. Manuella Oliveira Yassa, Nikhita Kaushik built the foundation for what would become the Southern California Youth Neuroscience Association (SCYNA) – a platform for high school students to learn, actively participate in, and grow as aspiring neuroscientists. As its Founding President, Nikhita spent her high school years growing SCYNA from an idea to an organization that engages over 200 Southern California teens in neuroscience. SCYNA provides exposure to the interdisciplinary field of neuroscience and is a platform for students to connect and discuss neuroscience topics with peers having similar interests. The leadership board is planning events including speaker events where high schoolers engage with neuroscientists as well as interactive events like debates and journal clubs. Additionally, the members will give back to the community by engaging younger children in neuroscience activities.
